A funny cat, a cosy mess and why eclectic cottage style makes life easier
Cats are the cosiest creatures on earth ;-)
Many years ago, I had a cat named Enzo. He was an affectionate, extremely sociable fellow who wasn’t afraid of anything.
Enzo loved to sit in flower pots.
One day, my husband and I were reattaching the lining on an old wingback chair. The fabric underneath had come loose, so there we were, staple gun in hand, restoring some dignity to a very tired piece of furniture.
Enzo, naturally, was involved - batting at loose threads, chasing the tape measure, supervising.
Then, at some point, he vanished. We thought nothing of it. Until, just as my husband was about to staple the final corner shut, a single paw shot out through the last remaining opening.
Enzo had, in a moment of inattention, climbed inside the chair lining and made himself at home - then, without a fuss, allowed himself to be stapled into the furniture. We couldn’t stop laughing. And yes, we had to undo part of our work to rescue the cat from the chair he’d made his private lounge.
He emerged with his usual dignity, of course, as if to say, “I was here first.”
That moment - unexpected, a bit chaotic, and full of character - sums up so much of what I love, not only about life with animals, but about the spirit behind the art I create.
Why my art celebrates everyday life, cosy chaos, and imperfect moments
Art, for me, has never been about pristine perfection or polished surfaces. It’s about capturing feeling - those fleeting, familiar moments that make a life feel like yours. When I began painting under the name Cup of Cosy Art, I wasn’t chasing trends or trying to fit a genre. I was following a feeling: the one you get when your home smells like rain and cinnamon, your socks don’t match, and your dog has stolen your seat again.
It’s the kind of day where you light a candle even though it’s only 3 p.m., the dog is snoring softly at your feet, and the rain outside sounds like it’s trying to compose a lullaby. Nothing major is happening - and that’s exactly the point. That stillness, that softness - it matters. That’s what I try to bottle in my illustrations.
What the heck is eclectic cottage art and why does it make life easier?
To me, eclectic cottage art is where cosy meets curious. It’s a celebration of warmth, whimsy, and the quiet poetry of everyday life - woven together with a mix-and-match spirit. Imagine the charm of cottage living layered with unexpected details: wildflowers in jam jars, a cat in the fruit bowl, and just enough beautiful clutter to feel like home.
It’s not about sticking to a single style or perfect aesthetic. It’s about embracing what feels real and soulful - handmade touches, mismatched treasures, the odd biscuit crumb on a windowsill. My art draws on nature, nostalgia, and gentle rebellion. It tells stories of muddy boots, forgotten teacups, and moments that matter simply because they are.
If traditional cottagecore is the neat tea towel, eclectic cottage art is the one with a biscuit stain and a doodle in the corner. And honestly? I’d hang that one on the wall. This is real life, it is me – a clean house is nice… but I’ve got other priorities😊 Ever since I embraced that, I’ve felt so much better about things not being perfect. And I love it! And it fits so well with my art.
Cosy, wonky, and slightly unhinged – just like my art
That’s the spirit behind every piece I create. Whether it’s a mischievous animal, a quiet woodland scene, or a slightly chaotic domestic moment -I want my art to feel like recognition. So that my readers can say: „Yes… that’s me.“
In a world that’s always rushing, always filtering, always polishing - it feels quietly radical to celebrate the unfinished, the slightly wobbly, the deeply personal. That’s what this space is about. Not curated perfection, but comfort with character.
Let’s share stories – mischievous pets welcome
If the story above resonated with you - if you’ve ever paused to admire the way sunlight hits a mug or smiled at the chaos your pets cause - you’re in good company here. I’ll be sharing more stories behind my art, seasonal inspiration, and cosy little creative moments as this blog unfolds.
And if you have a mischievous pet with main-character energy (or one who simply excels at looking morally disappointed in your life choices), I’d love to hear about them. Send me your stories - they might even sneak into a future painting.
Have a wonderful day!
Love,
